Anglo-Indian tilt-top center table of carved and pierced padouk having an octagonal top with foliate carving contained within a beaded border, overhanging and scalloped apron with intricate carved scrolling flowers and foliate, the base with carved beasts and animals amid foliate designs, Bombay.

Provenance:  Ex collection Sir Victor Pryce-Jones.  Sir Victor was a scion of an important Montgomeryshire, U.K. family of merchants and politicians.  The family business, the Royal Welsh Warehouse, was an early cataloguer.

Highly important amboyna, giltwood and scagliola center table, Irish. The scagliola top depicting a scene possibly on the estate of Mourne Park (see below), and showing a three-story house, a winding stream, a little wooden bridge and a servant carrying a bundle of wood on his shoulder from the surrounding forests, with a ruin visible in the background; the scene within a beaded surround and outer continuous border of acorns and oak leaves. The top supported by a simulated bronze column of acanthus scroll design on a tri-partite base veneered in amboyna on carved bun feet.

Measurements: Diameter 33" Height 26 1/4"

Provenance: This table comes from Mourne Park, an estate in County Down, Northern Ireland. Mourne Park was the home of the Needham family, the Viscounts Kilmorey and later Earls of Kilmorey. The family has been part of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy since the early 17th century, and maintained several residences in Ireland as well as a seat in Shropshire, England.

Regency Writing Table
An early 19th century black lacquer, mahogany, tuilpwood and satinwood "bonheur du jour" from the workshop of John Balls & Co. of London. With pagoda top, sloping and chamfered sides, pierced three-quarter galleries and gilt metal mounts above a central compartment with mirrored door; the door framed in flower marquetry with its original lock and flanked by small drawers with floral marquetry, fitted with foliate handles; one drawer bearing the original cabinetmaker's paper label "Balls & Co 170 Oxford St...;" the top is attached to a flat rectangular ebonized surface with a green oval tooled leather writing surface, cross banded with tulipwood and raised on ring turned and tapering legs terminating in toupie feet.

American Writing Table by Herts Bros.
Important New York maker fashionable among late 19th and early 20th century society figures. A fine quality mahogany writing table stamped on the back and on the bottom of the center drawer "Herts Brothers Boadway & 20th NY." In the Rococo Revival style, the shaped reversed serpentine top with carved molded edge, above one central drawer flanked by pairs of smaller drawers, the center drawer with carved acanthus leaf decoration. Paneled sides and back, on four cabriole legs. The knees with carved cabochon and punchwork, terminating in knuckled paw feet.
