Mirrors
from County Rosscommon, Ireland
Highly important near pair
of Regency pier mirrors bearing the labels
Del Vecchio on back of each mirror. Carved and gilded
cresting with leaf and gesso molded ball decoration.
The plate in two sections with a bold rope-twist
carved inner border, ebonized and gilded, flanked
by ovolo molded cluster columns. James Del Vecchio
is listed in Wilson’s Directory, circa 1820,
as working at 26 Westmoreland Street as a print
seller, plaster of Paris manufacturer and looking
glass and frame maker. Del Vecchio moved to 15 Lower
Abbey Street, Dublin 1833-35 and is recorded at
68 Dame Street, 1836-38.
